I was very disappointed with that since it is the same brand. The remote will not control that either. Also, we have a Pioneer duel cassette tape deck.
It has the capability to be much more that what we need, so this is a limited review. It will turn our non-Pioneer CD player on & off, but will not allow any other functions. We bought this to replace an old Pioneer receiver that was no longer working.
Even to play a CD I have to go over to the unit and push the button. That was one of the reasons I chose this item instead of another one, because it has a more comprehensive remote. It does get hot in our stereo cabinet when the glass door is closed if it is on for a few hours.
I was disappointed with the remote.
I'm not even usingthe surround sound capabilitys yet but just the stereomode sounds great with the CD's, DVD'S, and TV.It looks great too with the blue lights. I'm very happy with this receiver, it has a lots ofpower and sounds great through my JBL'S.
wire hook up as well.Pioneer VSX-917V-K Home Theater Receiver (Black) 4 out 5 stars- a good reciever for the price and $200 dollars cheaper than best buy. To save much time and aggravation however- please remember that you won't get sound with just the HDMI wire connection- you must add an audio (optical/ etc.).
however it's analog and thus no cable exists for use with the ps3).In conclusion, this is a good but limited system. There were also some small issues listening to SACD's over hdmi (although there is a separate multi-channel rig on the back. and it wasn't until I discovered this unit couldn't do linear 7.1 pcm because it only does pass-through audio via hdmi that I realised I had to send it back.
If you are either hoping to have only one cable from your tv to your receiver -- or if you are planning on enjoying true 7.1 surround. My entire home theater is built around my gaming systems -- and the ps3 is the crown jewel. This is the most important thing you need to know about this receiver.
It pumps out the best video and the best audio. this is not the receiver you want. However, if you don't care about having to run a separate cable for audio or are perfectly content with 5.1 surround -- this is a nice unit.
The microphone configured my speaker set-up beautifully, and breathed new life into my system.
It will pass audio though via HDMI, but that does not help. I guess it's cheaper to build them that way. HDMI sounds like a great idea, a single cable that can support audio and video. You must use additional audio cables with this receiver. I returned this item for that one reason. The problems come when using devices like this one. This unit will not input audio through HDMI.
